Rhode Island Coastal Adventure Trails
The Rhode Island Coastal Adventure Trails (RICAT) reach a wide variety of easily accessible outdoor recreation locations in a 75 square mile rural area of scenic southern Rhode Island . This is one of the largest green regions between New York and Boston and its forests, fields and coastal vistas make it an ideal place for birding, hiking, biking and other outdoor adventures.
Here we introduce the initial phase of the Rhode Island Coastal Adventure Trails; the Coastal Biking Trail and the Coastal Birding Trail . A copy of the RICAT Map and Trail Guides will help you navigate the two trails. Our trails assume highway U.S. 1 in southern Rhode Island as a starting point and ending point. However, you may choose to travel our roads in a different way or extend your tour beyond our current boundaries. If that is your choice, spend some time with the official Rhode Island Highway Map. All principle local roads appear on the state highway map and distinctive signs mark the entrances to the coastal Rhode Island outdoor recreation sites.
Whether you choose to follow our trail guides or build your own itinerary, the Charlestown Chamber of Commerce Tourist Information Center or the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Kettle Pond Visitor Center is a good place to start. Both are just off U.S.1 in Charlestown , RI . They have the maps you'll need and staff who can tell you about the highlights of the region. It's easy to get around in coastal Rhode Island.
